Sunshine State Young Readers Award Jr.!

I'm pleased to share the good news that GONE FISHING: A Novel in Verse is included on the first ever Sunshine State Young Readers Award Junior list! That means that k-2nd grade readers in the state of Florida will be reading Gone FIshing and other wonderful books this fall and next spring and will then vote for their favorite. This is particularly fun for me since Florida is my adopted home state.

If you're interested in the full list, click on the logo below. Thank you Florida Association for Media in Education! I'm honored that GONE FISHING was chosen for this young readers list.

National Poetry Month 2015 Is Near!

The 2015 National Poetry Month celebration begins just days from now. I'm making plans and enjoying this year's poster designed by Roz Chast, a 2014 National Book Award finalist and New Yorker cartoonist. Roz's clever art features a line of poetry from Mark Strand’s wonderfully devilish, "Eating Poetry" which begins:

"Ink runs from the corners of my mouth.

There is no happiness like mine.

I have been eating poetry..."

Click here for the rest of Mark Strand's "Eating Poetry.”

Click on the poster to learn more about the Academy of American Poets and National Poetry Month.

To celebrate National Poetry Month this year, each week during April I'll feature a new poetry-related book right here including a giveaway of each of the books. Here is the line up of featured books:

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
March 30 - April 3 week:
THE POETRY FRIDAY ANTHOLOGY FOR CELEBRATIONS edited by Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong
April 6-10 week:
BLUE BIRDS by Caroline Starr Rose
April 13-17 week:
AUDACITY by Melanie Crowder
April 20-24 week:
GONE FISHING: A Novel in Verse paperback by me: Tamera Will Wissinger
Here are other poetry-related happenings:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm also looking forward to participating in Irene Latham's 2015 Progressive Poem. Last year was my first time participating and it was such fun I decided to jump in again. I'll be adding the participating poets in my sidebar so that we can follow along as the poem is written.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To celebrate the release of the Gone Fishing paperback, through 3/31 I’m hosting a Gone Fishing giveaway on twitter using the hashtag #GoneFishingPaperback.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Today's Poetry Friday is with Jone at Check It Out!

That's all for now. Have a great weekend, enjoy National Poetry Month and I hope to see you back here in April to celebrate!

GONE FISHING: A Novel In Verse is Available in Paperback 3/24/2015!

Today I'm celebrating the paperback release of Gone Fishing: A Novel in Verse! It looks just like the original hardcover and has the same content, but the paperback is a tiny bit smaller:

It makes me very happy that Gone Fishing is available as a hardcover, paperback, and e-book.

To celebrate, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is helping me host an online giveaway. Between now and 12:00 Noon Eastern Daylight Time on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, you can Tweet or Retweet using the hashtag #GoneFishingPaperback for a chance to win a paperback copy of Gone Fishing: A Novel in Verse. Here's a sample you are welcome to use:

The Gone Fishing paperback by @TameraWissinger is here! Tweet or retweet #GoneFishingPaperback for a chance to win a copy from @HMHKids

If you'd like to purchase a copy, it's available through the publisher, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

It's also available wherever books are sold.

Thanks for stopping by and celebrating with me!

March 5, 2015 Marks the Two Year Anniversary of Gone Fishing's Release

It's hard to believe, but my first book, Gone Fishing A Novel in Verse, was released two years ago on this day. A fun aspect of being an author is having the chance to see copies of your own books just before they are released. Houghton Mifflin sent this box of books to me a few days before that release - what a thrill!

Happy Anniversary Sam and Lucy!

My first peek at the hard copies of Gone Fishing in 2013.

This Old Band and Gone Fishing Update

I’ve recently heard some very nice news about both GONE FISHING and THIS OLD BAND.

 THIS OLD BAND is a 2014 Southwest Book of the Year for Kids! Here is a link to the group of four selected books.

GONE FISHING is included on these state and regional reading lists:

2015-2016 Horned Toad Tales nominee, Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District, Houston, Texas

2015-2016 Indiana Library Federation Young Hoosier Book Award Nominee, Intermediate Grades

2016 Oklahoma Library Association Children's Sequoyah Book Awards Nominee

2015-2016 Virginia State Reading Association Virgina Readers' Choice Elementary List

Thank you to the readers and the librarians and reading teachers who decided to include my books! I'm thrilled to know that young readers will be reading them both.
